Oocyte cryopreservation
Oocyte freezing is done by the method of Vitrification. Vitrification is very efficient and less stressful for embryos and oocytes than older methods of slow freezing
Who can benefit from this scheme?
• Women who wish to put off childbearing
• Women undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy patients
• Women who wish to cryopreserve eggs instead of embryos, for ethical reasons
Oocyte cryopreservation is a fairly new method offering an advantage for young patients interested in fertility preservation prior to chemotherapy or radiotherapy for oncology diseases.
Similarly, women planning to delay their pregnancy plans may wish to store their eggs at a younger age. They undergo controlled ovarian stimulation and ovum pick up is done in the same way as in routine IVF.
Oocyte freezing is done by the method of vitrification. Vitrification is very efficient and less stressful for embryos and oocytes than older methods of slow freezing. It is achieved by combining high levels of cryoprotectants and ultra-rapid cooling rates. Oocyte survival survival after thawing presently is about 90% which is remarkably high
