PGD/PGS
This technique is used to select healthy embryos that do not carry genetic diseases which are able to be tested for such as thalassemia, cystic fibrosis, Down syndrome, etc BEFORE they are transferred to the uterus. The techniques used at our center for PGD/PGS are :
• Fluorescent In-situ Hybridization (FISH) for aneuploidy screening, i.e, assessment of chromosomal disorders.
• Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) for assessment of single gene defects.
Our biopsy method utilises the laser technique. We have had extensive experience in couples with Thalassemia trait. Our results shown here below compare favourably to the ESHRE’s European studies
